Short answer

  • Best overall weather: April, May, September, October.
  • Peak everything (fall colors): mid-October. Expensive. Book months ahead.
  • Best value: mid-week stays in January–February, late February weekdays, mid-November (non-Thanksgiving), and early December.
  • Best for groups with kids: June–early August (river / lake season, long days).

  • Notes: 4th of July is the single busiest weekend. Tubing and river time are the moves.

  • Notes: Similar to July. Mid-August weekdays are the first softening of peak season.

September

October

  • Weather: Cool + colorful — 40s/70s
  • Crowds: Peak (fall foliage)
  • Rates: Peak
  • Notes: Colors peak mid-to-late October. Weekend rates match July 4th. Weekdays are worth it.

November

  • Weather: Cool — 30s/60s
  • Crowds: Moderate (Thanksgiving peaks)
  • Rates: Moderate, Thanksgiving at peak
  • Notes: Foliage lingers early month. Thanksgiving weekend is 4-night minimum.

December

  • Weather: Cold — 30s/50s, occasional freeze
  • Crowds: Low except Christmas/NYE
  • Rates: Low-to-moderate, Christmas/NYE at peak
  • Notes: Christmas / NYE weeks book first. Quiet otherwise — hot tub + fireplace weather.

When to book

  • Fall foliage weekends: 3-6 months ahead for Fri-Sun cabin rental
  • Summer holiday weekends (Memorial, 4th, Labor): 3+ months ahead
  • Thanksgiving / Christmas / NYE: 6+ months ahead
  • Weekdays, non-peak: often bookable 2-3 weeks out
